Chapter 12 - PROJECT MIRROR

Project Mirror was not in the Brooks Meridian system.
It was in Charles’s private legal archive.
Court order required production.
The folder contained scenario planning.
If Daniel discovers surveillance:
Frame secrecy as governance abuse.
If Daniel does not discover surveillance:
Use misconduct allegation to trigger trust review.
Two outcomes.
Exactly.
Author:
Charles Keene.
Co-author:
Unknown.
Sophia stared.
“You said this was my idea.”
Charles’s lawyer objected.
Too late.
Michael looked sick.
Charles had not told Sophia to fake assault.
He had designed the structure around possible allegations.
Then Naomi opened the earliest Project Mirror draft.
Date:
Eight months earlier.
Before Sophia’s Redline fee.
Before NorthBridge’s final offer.
Purpose:
Resolve trustee deadlock through reputational displacement.
Daniel stared.
This was older than the bedroom plan.
Sophia had been recruited into an existing strategy.
Charles argued it was theoretical governance analysis.
The phrase reputational displacement sounded bad.
But corporate lawyers modeled ugly possibilities all the time.
Then the unknown co-author field was decoded.
Initials:
R.B.
Everyone looked at Richard.
Daniel’s father.
Michael whispered:
“No.”
They confronted him.
Richard typed:
I HELPED START IT.
Daniel felt the room tilt.
“Why?”
Richard’s answer:
TO TEST BOTH OF YOU.
Michael stared.
“Test us?”
Richard:
DANIEL HIDES POWER.
MICHAEL HANDS POWER TO PEOPLE HE LOVES.
Both sons went silent.
Richard had asked Charles to model how each brother responded under pressure.
Project Mirror began as governance stress-testing.
Then Charles converted it into a real strategy.
Sophia weaponized it.
Derek—no, not Derek. Daniel’s world had become a hall of mirrors where every defensive plan became offensive once enough ambition touched it.
Richard typed:
I NEVER AUTHORIZED FALSE ACCUSATION.
Sophia laughed bitterly.
“No. You just built the room.”
The phrase landed.
Then Richard typed one more line.
CHARLES WAS NOT THE ONE WHO CHANGED PROJECT MIRROR FROM TEST TO ACTION.
Daniel stared.
“Who was?”
Richard looked toward Michael.
May you like
Michael went pale.
Because he already knew.
