Chapter 7 - THE MESSAGE DANIEL REALLY WROTE
The screenshot Sophia used against Daniel was authentic.
That became official by noon.
Daniel had written:
Tonight she’ll give us exactly what we need.

Then Lucas recovered the full thread.
Daniel:
The NorthBridge valuation leak has to be coming through someone inside the family.
Lucas:
Who?
Daniel:
Sophia has access through Michael. She’s meeting Charles tonight.
Lucas:
You think she’ll pass the revised draft?
Daniel:
If she does, logs catch it.
Daniel:
Tonight she’ll give us exactly what we need.

Not bedroom staging.
Daniel expected a document leak.
Sophia’s screenshot had removed everything around it.
Michael looked relieved.
Then angry.
“You were monitoring my wife.”
“I was monitoring confidential files.”
“Through my wife.”
“Yes.”
“You could have told me.”
“You would have confronted her.”
“Maybe.”
“And destroyed the investigation.”
Michael slammed the table.
“That is what you always do.”
Daniel stopped.
“What?”
“You decide you’re the only adult in the room.”
Sophia watched silently.
Michael continued.
“Dad gets sick, you control the trust. Company leaks, you hire secret security. My wife becomes suspicious, you wire yourself.”
Daniel wanted to argue.
Couldn’t.
He had reasons.
Good ones.
But Michael was not wrong.
Then Naomi entered with another discovery.
The revised NorthBridge valuation had indeed been accessed the night of the family dinner.
Sophia’s credentials.
Sophia said:
“I was asked to review integration assumptions.”
Possible.
Then file-transfer logs showed the document leaving the family server.

Charles Keene’s legal portal.
Not NorthBridge.
Not Redline.
Charles.
Daniel looked at the attorney.
Charles answered calmly:
“Legal review.”
“Why was it deleted from the audit trail?”
“I did not delete it.”
Then Naomi displayed the deletion event.
User:
SOPHIA BROOKS.
Sophia looked genuinely surprised.
“I didn’t do that.”
