Chapter 13 - RICHARD AND CLAIRE

Richard offered Claire a new house.
She refused.
He offered security.
She accepted limited security.
He offered to pay legal fees.
She allowed trust-approved portions related to Lily, and paid her personal divorce costs herself where possible.
Richard frowned.
“Why make it harder?”
Claire answered:
“Because I need to know what’s mine.”
That silenced him.
Then she confronted him.
“You built a trust around my marriage without telling me.”
“I was protecting you.”
“You were deciding for me.”
“Yes.”
He admitted it.
Then:
“I didn’t trust Daniel.”
“You should’ve told me.”
“Yes.”
Richard’s flaw was not greed.
Control disguised as protection.

That realization hurt.
