Chapter 5 - VANESSA'S PROMISE
Vanessa was not simply sleeping with Daniel.
He had promised her a future.
Apartment in Manhattan.
Travel.
Marriage after divorce.
Then something bigger.
A role in Harlow Capital Ventures.
Daniel had no authority to promise that.
But Vanessa believed he would gain more leverage once Claire left.
Texts later showed:
DANIEL:
Once residency issue is clean, Richard can’t use the house against me.
VANESSA:
And Claire?
DANIEL:
She’ll get what she’s entitled to.
VANESSA:
Which is?
DANIEL:
Less than she thinks.
Then:
VANESSA:
What about Lily?
DANIEL:
Child arrangements separate.
That sentence mattered.
He had reduced his daughter to a different legal category in the same conversation where he discussed property.
Then Vanessa wrote:
You said after her birthday trigger this gets harder.
Daniel:
Exactly.
She knew about timing.
Not necessarily every trust detail.
Enough.
Claire read the messages weeks later and felt physically sick.
Vanessa had not pushed Lily onto the grass because of the trust.
She did it because she was cruel and angry in the moment.
