Chapter 2 - RICHARD DIDN'T COME FOR DINNER

Richard crossed the lawn fast.

Claire had never seen him move like that.

He took Lily gently.

“Baby girl.”

Lily sobbed into his jacket.

Richard looked at Claire.

“Is she hurt?”

“I don’t know.”

He turned toward one of the men from the second car.

“Call Dr. Mercer. Now.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Richard, this is a family issue.”

Richard looked at him.

“It became my issue when my granddaughter hit the ground.”

Vanessa snapped:

“She barely fell.”

Richard’s eyes moved to her.

“Who are you?”

That destroyed her confidence.

Daniel said:

“Vanessa.”

Richard waited.

“My partner.”

Silence.

Claire laughed once.

Not because anything was funny.

Richard looked at Daniel.

“You brought your mistress into my daughter’s home?”

Daniel’s jaw tightened.

“This is my house.”

Richard stared.

Then:

“No.”

That single word changed the air.

Daniel frowned.

Richard continued:

“You live here.”

Daniel went pale.

Claire looked at her father.

“What?”

Richard ignored the question.

He pointed toward the third car.

An attorney stepped out carrying a document case.

Rachel Sloan.

Claire knew her.

Family counsel.

Richard said:

“We need to go inside.”

Daniel blocked the patio door.

“No one is going anywhere until Claire leaves.”

Rachel stopped.

Then asked:

“Did you just order Claire to vacate the marital residence?”

Daniel looked at her.

“Yes.”

Rachel opened the document case.

“Good.”

Daniel’s expression shifted.

“Good?”

May you like

Rachel answered:

“Because now we have a witness.”
