The final financial accounting took six weeks.
No dramatic explosions.
Spreadsheets.
Valuations.
Invoices.
Receipts.
The result was almost disappointing in its fairness.
The house belonged to Claire’s family trust.
Daniel had no ownership claim to principal.
But renovations during marriage created measurable appreciation partly attributable to marital effort.
Daniel received a share.
Morgan Design remained Claire’s separate company.
But Daniel’s work during the 2023 crisis had measurable economic value.
He received compensation credit.
Claire hated some of the numbers.
She accepted them.
Because fairness was not the same as victory.
Wedding expenses charged to Morgan Design had to be repaid.
Vanessa’s apartment deposit had to be repaid.
DMR Strategic was dissolved under supervision.
Claire retained all control of inherited commercial property.
Daniel’s eventual settlement was substantial.
Far smaller than he expected.
Far larger than revenge would have preferred.
Rachel asked:
“You okay with this?”
Claire looked at the numbers.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want to become him.”
Rachel understood.
Claire did not want every contribution erased simply because the marriage ended badly.
She wanted boundaries.
