Marcus Reed requested immunity.
Not complete.
Cooperation consideration.
In exchange, he would explain the forged packet and DMR Strategic.
Daniel’s new lawyer called him a liar trying to save himself.
Marcus probably was.
He was also useful.
His testimony:
Daniel gave him the single signed acknowledgment.
Daniel wanted the divorce effective immediately.
Marcus copied the signature onto settlement pages because, in his words, Daniel had “already approved the substance.”
Daniel never explicitly ordered forgery.
Claire stared.
Marcus had converted assumed intention into a signature.
The same disease.
Different profession.
Rachel asked:
“Did Daniel know?”
Marcus paused.
“Not before filing.”
That surprised Claire.
Daniel looked almost relieved.
Then Marcus continued.
“But after.”
The room changed.
“What happened?”
“He called me the next morning and asked why every page showed the same signature.”
“And?”
“I told him it was handled.”
“What did he say?”
Marcus looked at Daniel.
“He said, ‘Fine. Don’t create another problem.’”
Daniel closed his eyes.
Not author.
Cover-up.
Enough.
Then came DMR Strategic.
Marcus admitted it had two purposes.
Investment diversification.
And asset shelter if Daniel’s marriage collapsed.
“Whose assets?”
“Daniel’s anticipated marital share.”
“Before a court determined that share?”
“Yes.”
Rachel lifted the wedding expense records.
“And Vanessa’s apartment?”
Marcus sighed.
“Daniel used the account.”
Not Marcus.
Daniel.
The story clarified.
Marcus forged.
Daniel tolerated.
Daniel misused funds.
Both believed Claire’s eventual resistance was a problem to manage.
Then Marcus handed prosecutors an earlier memo.
It concerned Morgan Design Studio.
Potential transition of executive authority if C.M. becomes medically unavailable.
Date:
Fourteen months before Claire’s surgery.
Before Vanessa.
Claire stared.
Why?
Marcus explained.
Daniel had wanted to merge Morgan Design with a larger development group.
Claire had refused.
Daniel believed the merger would make them richer.
Claire thought it would destroy her father’s company.
Daniel did not start planning control because he wanted another woman.
He started because Claire said no to him.
