Chapter 8 - THE PLAZA VIDEO

Multiple cameras captured the incident.
One showed Emma’s balloon flying.
One showed Daniel with Madison.
One showed Emma entering the pedestrian lane.
One showed the car braking.
One showed Rachel returning.
One showed Evelyn’s SUV stopping.
The footage became central in temporary custody hearings.
Daniel’s lawyer argued:
Rachel also left Emma in Daniel’s care in a busy plaza.
True.
Rachel’s lawyer answered:
Daniel accepted supervision and then failed to notice Emma leave while embracing Madison.
Also true.
Then Daniel’s attorney used Rachel’s shove.
Aggressive reaction.
Judge Karen Holt watched the full sequence.
Rachel did not deny it.
“I shoved him.”
“Why?”
“I thought our daughter had been hit by a car or taken.”
“Do you think that justified physical contact?”
Rachel paused.
Then:
“No.”
Good.
No dramatics.
Then Daniel testified.
He said he looked away for seconds.
Video:
one minute forty-seven seconds between Rachel walking away and Daniel first turning toward the empty stroller.
Long.
Then the judge asked:
“Did you know Ms. Blake would be at the plaza?”
Daniel said:
“No.”
Phone records showed fifteen messages between them that morning.
One:
