Chapter 9 - TRAVIS COOPERATES
Travis Bell eventually cooperated.
His motive was money.
Vanessa paid him $4,000.
Not to injure Emily.
To create a staged “maintenance scare.”
That did not make it acceptable.
He knew any unauthorized interference with ride equipment carried serious risk.
He did it anyway.
Why had he agreed?
Debt.
Suspended contractor work.
Anger toward Adventure Harbor for ending his prior contract.
And belief that:
“the operator would catch it.”
Ryan did.
Barely.
Then Travis revealed another detail.
Vanessa wanted the seat issue to happen specifically to Emily.
No ambiguity.
She sent:
ride name,
date,
approximate boarding window,
and clothing description.
Investigators did not publicize procedural details.
They did not need to.
The targeting itself established intent.
Then Travis admitted he warned Vanessa:
“If she shifts hard, they’ll see it.”
Vanessa answered:
“Good.”
That text existed.
Not:
make it unsafe.
But:
she expected visible movement.
Then the train rolled before the emergency stop.
The risk Vanessa mentally assigned to staff controls exceeded what those controls could guarantee.
That became the legal core.
Not:
she wanted her daughter dead.
