Chapter 14 - MARGARET AND BLOOD
Margaret’s obsession with blood came from her own history.
Her father left the family business to a son who barely worked there because:
sons carry the name.
Margaret had worked summers.
Studied finance.
Managed accounts.
Still got less.
She hated the system.
Then reproduced it.
In therapy, that contradiction surfaced.
“You were excluded by bloodline thinking,” the therapist said.
Margaret answered:
“Yes.”
“And now you use bloodline thinking against Noah.”
Margaret became angry.
“It’s different.”
“How?”
“He isn’t Michael’s.”
The therapist waited.
“That is the same logic.”
Margaret left the session early.
Returned the next week.
Progress.
She eventually wrote Michael:
I confused biology with legitimacy because I spent my whole life trying to prove I was legitimate inside my own family.
Michael read it.
Did not answer.
