Chapter 8 - ESTHER'S BEST ARGUMENT
Esther’s lawyer told her to stop saying:
“She was taking the baby away.”
The phrase sounded possessive.
Esther changed it.
She said:
“Valeria isolated Alexander from his family.”
Examples:
fewer Sunday dinners,
shorter holidays,
moving to Denver,
limiting hospital visitors.
Some true.
Valeria had become more restrictive.
Why?
Because Esther crossed boundaries repeatedly.
But Esther experienced the restrictions as cause, not consequence.
She also argued:
“I was preparing to help.”
True.
Night feedings.
Meals.
Laundry.
Recovery support.
All useful.
“I had done more research than either of them.”
Probably true.
“I was trying to reduce stress.”
At first, maybe.
The problem was consent.
Help planned without the recipient becomes management.
