Chapter 11 - THE EVICTION
Caroline refused to leave after thirty days.
So Evelyn filed formally.
Caroline argued:
family residence,
promissory estoppel,
Richard’s assurances.
The court considered.
Richard testified.
He hated it.
He admitted telling Caroline she could always come home.
Attorney asked:
“Did you mean permanent legal possession?”
“No.”
“Did you promise title?”
“No.”
“Did you tell her the trust owned the property?”
Richard paused.
“No.”
Bad parenting.
Not conveyance.
Then Evelyn testified.
“Why evict your stepdaughter?”
“Because she entered my home, ordered me to serve her, used my family office name without authority, and is refusing to respect boundaries.”
Caroline’s attorney said:
“This is retaliation.”
Evelyn answered:
“It is consequence.”
Judge considered whether notice complied with local law.
It did.
No dramatic same-day removal.
Process.
Eventually order granted.
Caroline and Derek moved into a rental.
Smaller.
Still nice.
