Chapter 7 - ADRIAN COUNTERATTACKS

Adrian filed first.

Not for annulment.

For divorce.

His petition accused Claire of assault and emotional manipulation.

He attached photographs of the redness on his wrist.

He claimed the leather strap was part of a consensual intimacy conversation.

He claimed the rule sheet was a joke.

He claimed Claire brought annulment papers because she planned to humiliate him publicly and seize leverage over his family.

It was smart.

Not true.

But smart.

Rebecca warned Claire:

“He’s building ambiguity.”

Claire nodded.

“What do we have?”

“Context.”

The hotel hallway camera showed Adrian locking the door and carrying the leather case.

Security audio captured his first words when they entered:

“She attacked me because I tried to establish boundaries.”

The rule sheet had Adrian’s handwriting.

Document metadata showed the financial forms were drafted by Hale family counsel two days before the wedding.

And Evelyn agreed to testify.

Not that Adrian had committed crimes.

That he had used similar language with her.

Similar rules.

Similar financial demands.

Pattern did not automatically prove every claim.

But it gave Claire’s account credibility.
