Chapter 2 - WHY ARTHUR WAS WATCHING

The cameras had been installed years before to protect the children, staff, art, jewelry, and antiques.
Arthur rarely checked them.
Then Clara changed.
Nine years old, normally talkative and curious, she became quiet after Arthur’s engagement to Seraphina.
She asked Elena:
“Will Dad still love us after he marries her?”
Lily began asking whether she and Clara would have to “stay upstairs” when Seraphina became their mother.
Arthur confronted Seraphina.
She smiled.
“Kids say strange things.”
He believed her.
Then Elena came to him privately.
“Mr. Caldwell, I think you should watch what happens when you’re not home.”
Arthur hated the suggestion.
But agreed.
He told Seraphina he had a late meeting.
