Chapter 14 - TESSA STOPS BEING THE SECOND MOM
Grant recovered slowly.
He could lift Miles again after medical clearance.
The first time, Tessa hovered.
“Support his head.”
Grant looked at her.
“I know.”
She stepped back.
Then rushed forward when Miles fussed.
Grant stopped her gently.
“I’ve got him.”
Tessa froze.
The phrase felt strange.
Grant repeated:
“I’ve got him.”
Tessa went to her room.
Ten minutes later she came back holding colored pencils.
She sat at the kitchen table.
Did homework.
Miles cried.
Tessa looked up.
Grant picked him up.
She looked back down.
That was progress.
