Grant wanted to blame Laura completely.
Then his therapist asked:
“How often were you home?”
He bristled.
“I work.”
“How often?”
Sixty hours some weeks.
Oilfield equipment sales across Oklahoma and north Texas.
Early mornings.
Late drives.
Overnight trips.
He believed childcare was handled because he paid for it.
He did not verify.
He also liked Laura’s ability to “make things work.”
When she said:
I’ve got it,
he felt relieved.
He rarely asked:
How?
Then Tessa had once complained:
“Mom makes me carry Miles too much.”
Grant answered:
“You’re a great big sister.”
He had meant praise.
