Chapter 12 - THE PLEA AND THE PROTECTIVE ORDER

The criminal case did not become attempted murder.

No one claimed the knife touched Emma.

The prosecutable conduct centered on:

domestic assault,

coercive threat,

child endangerment,

unlawful restraint.

Daniel accepted a negotiated plea on reduced but serious charges.

Conditions:

probation,

batterer-intervention program,

anger treatment,

no unsupervised contact with Emma,

protective order concerning Claire,

weapons restrictions.

No fantasy sentence.

The financial investigation moved separately.

Forgery and lender-fraud allegations were referred for prosecution and civil resolution.

Daniel’s lawyer negotiated:

cooperation,

restitution framework,

business liquidation.

Claire did not ask the prosecutor to “destroy him.”

She asked:

May you like

“Can Emma be safe?”

That became the priority.
