Chapter 8 - THE PRIVATE LENDER

North Coast Capital was aggressive.

Not criminal.

They specialized in distressed small businesses.

High rates.

Fast funding.

Hard collateral.

Their underwriting file included:

Daniel’s financial statements,

business receivables,

appraisal,

signed spousal consent.

Could they have caught the fraud?

Maybe.

The lender’s lawyer admitted:

the necklace photograph came from an appraisal,

but no in-person inspection occurred.

Why not?

Daniel said:

family heirloom in secure storage.

They accepted.

Risky.

Then when the loan defaulted, they demanded physical delivery.

Not because they wanted Claire’s mother’s necklace emotionally.

Because collateral was collateral.

When Daniel failed to produce it, North Coast froze further forbearance.

His business account was swept under loan terms.

Payroll crisis.

That pressure did not excuse violence.

May you like

But it explained timing.

Daniel had constructed a financial reality where one object became the last wall holding up multiple lies.
