Chapter 14 - CLAIRE'S BOTTLE

Claire had almost hit Daniel with the glass bottle.
She never swung.
Still, the moment haunted her.
In therapy she said:
“If Michael hadn’t come in, I would have.”
Therapist asked:
“Where was Emma?”
Claire went quiet.
“In Daniel’s arms.”
“What could have happened if you swung?”
Claire felt sick.
She had been trying to save Emma.
She might have escalated danger around her.
That did not make Daniel’s threat her fault.
It did mean protection required more than rage.
Claire practiced:
distance,
calling for help,
escape planning,
not closing physical space around someone holding a child.
She hated how clinical it sounded.
