A home-equity line application.
Their house had significant equity.
Jointly owned.
He wanted access to $150,000.
“For what?”
“Liquidity.”
“For the project?”
“For us.”
Claire stared.
“No.”
“It doesn’t mean we draw it.”
“No.”
“It’s just a facility.”
“No.”
Ethan became angry.
“You don’t understand how close we are.”
“I understand debt.”
“You’re panicking because of the diagnosis.”
Claire stood.
“Do not use cancer to make my no sound irrational.”
He apologized later.
Flowers.
Dinner.
A promise:
No more financial decisions until you recover.
Claire wanted to believe him.
