Chapter 11 - HANNAH'S SLAP

Hannah had slapped Diane while holding Sophie.
It was captured on a living-room camera.
After Hannah had already removed Sophie from immediate danger.
Police reviewed.
Context:
child had just been struck and denied food.
Still:
Hannah’s slap was retaliatory.
She accepted a minor diversionary resolution.
Anger counseling.
No moral equivalence.
Diane had been responsible for ongoing treatment of a toddler.
Hannah reacted once.
Different.
But Hannah refused to excuse herself.
She told the counselor:
“I wanted her to hurt.”
“Yes.”
“That’s not protection.”
“No.”
The distinction mattered.
Hannah wanted Sophie to grow up hearing:
Adults do not get to hit because they are right.

Even when furious.
Especially then.
