Chapter 6 - DIANE'S BEST ARGUMENT
Diane’s attorney did not claim the agreement said grandson.
It did not.
Instead Lauren argued:
the 6% block was designed to incentivize active family stewardship;
William’s historical notes emphasized keeping the operating company under experienced family control;
Sophie was an infant;
immediate trust creation would have no practical governance effect;
Diane believed deferral preserved flexibility.
Possible.
Then Lauren produced a handwritten memo from William.
“Prefer operating leadership remain with Collins men familiar with the business.”
Ugly.
Sexist.
But not binding by itself.
Another note:
“First grandchild block should motivate long-term commitment.”
Lauren argued William assumed the first grandchild would eventually participate.
Rachel replied:
“He wrote a contract. The contract controls.”
Then the food issue.
Lauren separated it entirely.
She argued Diane’s resentment toward Sophie being a girl did not prove financial motive for food restriction.
