Chapter 12 - EVELYN SACRIFICES HER SON
Evelyn’s lawyer changed strategy immediately.
She blamed Daniel.
Evelyn admitted reviewing documents.
Admitted editing language.
Admitted pushing the board.
But said Daniel told her Claire had authorized the transfer “in principle.”
Then she produced texts:
DANIEL:
Claire will never sign cleanly. She’ll fight over every comma.
EVELYN:
Then how do you have authority?
DANIEL:
I have what I need.
EVELYN:
Legal?
DANIEL:
Enough.
Evelyn argued she interpreted that as valid prior authorization.
Claire almost admired the move.
Almost.
Then another text surfaced.
EVELYN:
If she sees the final pledge, she’ll stop the entire thing.
DANIEL:
Then she doesn’t see it until after activation.
Evelyn:
Good.
That destroyed innocence.
Still, Evelyn tried to separate herself from the physical intimidation.
She said she never ordered security to restrain Claire.
True.
Then Victor produced a voice message.
Evelyn:
If she makes a scene, remove her before employees see it.
Not:
hurt her.
Not:
hold her.
But remove.
The line mattered.
Then Daniel realized his mother was cooperating against him.
He stopped protecting her.
His lawyers turned over an email Evelyn sent to Meridian’s transaction lawyer:
Once control transfers, Daniel needs to close quickly before Claire gets a judge involved.
Claire stared.
The takeover had never been about temporary continuity.
They knew litigation was coming.
They wanted the deal completed before anyone could unwind it.
