Chapter 5 - DR. PRICE
Dr. Leonard Price did not say Claire was incapacitated.
That was the first break.
His original letter said:
Ms. Bennett reports acute stress, insomnia, and difficulty concentrating in the context of marital and business conflict. Temporary reduction of workload may be clinically beneficial.
Nothing about incapacity.
Nothing about fiduciary decisions.
The board version added:
In my opinion, she is temporarily unable to reliably manage high-stakes financial decisions.
Price denied writing it.
He had emailed the original PDF to Daniel after Daniel requested documentation for insurance leave.
Why Daniel?
Because Daniel told Price he was helping Claire coordinate leave.
Claire had not authorized that.
Then metadata.
The altered PDF was created on a computer registered to Bennett Strategic Holdings.
Daniel’s company.
Good.
But Daniel had another defense.
His IT consultant had access.
Evelyn had access.
Assistants had access.
Metadata did not equal authorship.
Then Helen Crowe, the notary, appeared.
She said Claire signed the pledge in front of her.
Claire stared.
“That’s a lie.”
Helen cried.
“I saw you.”
“When?”
“March seventeenth.”
Claire was in Chicago.
Flight records proved it.
Helen corrected herself.
“Maybe March sixteenth.”
Claire was home.
Possible.
Then Maya asked for Helen’s notary journal.
Required entries.
Helen could not find it.
Convenient.
Then bank camera footage from the building lobby showed Helen entering Daniel’s office on March seventeenth.
Alone.
No Claire.
That narrowed it.
