Chapter 8 - THE THREE MEN
Victor Dane contacted Claire’s attorney.
He wanted immunity from civil claims in exchange for cooperation.
Maya refused full immunity.
She offered:
accurate testimony would be considered in settlement.
Victor talked anyway.
Daniel hired his firm two weeks before the confrontation.
Instructions:
executive security,
access control,
potential removal of a “disruptive shareholder.”
Claire.
Victor received a packet.
Photograph.
Office schedule.
Behavioral warning.
One line:
Subject may become physically aggressive when confronted with loss of authority.
Victor had believed it.
Then Daniel instructed them that morning:
“If Claire refuses to leave, restrain her until police arrive.”
No court order.
No trespass notice.
Claire owned the building through the company.
Victor admitted:
“We should’ve walked.”
Then Maya asked:
“Why didn’t you?”
Victor looked down.
“Daniel paid double rate.”
There.
Not brainwashing.
Money.
Then he handed over a voice message from Daniel sent fifteen minutes before Claire entered:
She’ll probably slap me. Let her make the first move.
Claire went cold.
Daniel had predicted it.
Maybe provoked it.
Then another message:
Once she swings, we control the room.
The slap had been part of the architecture too.
Daniel knew Claire’s temper.
He wanted the first visible act of violence to be hers.
Claire hated that the trick worked.
Maya said:
“Then learn from it.”
