Emma never took a witness stand.
Judge Hart refused to turn a ten-year-old into a spectacle.
Instead, a child specialist interviewed her.
Recorded.
Structured.
No parent present.
Emma said:
“Rachel got mad when I said something hurt.”
“She said I was lazy.”
“She said Harbor Ridge would make me listen.”
Then:
“Did your dad tell you what to say?”
“No.”
“Are you scared of your dad?”
Emma thought.
“When he yells, yes.”
Daniel heard that later.
It hurt.
Then Emma added:
“But he doesn’t hurt me.”
Two truths.
Daniel could be safer without being perfect.
The specialist asked:
“Do you want to see Rachel?”
Emma shook her head.
“Not now.”
That became the recommendation.
No forced reconciliation.
Rachel later entered a plea on limited assault-related charges and resolved the care-billing dispute through restitution and civil settlement.
Exact criminal consequences remained modest.
No fantasy prison life.
