Chapter 6 - RACHEL'S COUNTERSTORY
Rachel hired attorney Lauren Pierce.
Excellent.
Lauren did not deny the cane immediately.
She challenged context.
Rachel claimed:
she tapped Emma’s shoulder with the cane after Emma tried to swing the object away.
Emma said that was false.
Rachel said hair contact happened while preventing Emma from falling.
Again:
disputed.
Then Lauren attacked Daniel.
He admitted slapping Rachel.
He admitted dragging her outside.
He admitted refusing to let her return.
Lauren said:
“Rachel was the designated care coordinator. Daniel terminated care in anger.”
Then she produced messages.
DANIEL:
I’m sick of these exercises too.
Sent after Emma cried during therapy.
DANIEL:
Maybe skip tonight.
Another.
DANIEL:
Don’t push her if she’s hurting.
Reasonable father.
Reframed as interference.
Then Lauren defended Harbor Ridge.
It was licensed.
It had doctors.
It treated children like Emma.
Rachel’s sister working there did not automatically make the referral corrupt.
True.
Then Lauren said:
“Rachel was trying to preserve Emma’s surgical outcome.”
Daniel stared.
“She hit the surgical shoulder.”
Lauren answered:
“That allegation remains under investigation.”
