Chapter 12 - THE MARRIAGE CASE

Madison did not file for divorce immediately.

She filed for legal separation and temporary parenting orders.

Marcus wanted reconciliation.

Rachel told him:

“Wanting it does not create entitlement to it.”

Temporary arrangement:

Lily primarily with Madison for several weeks,

Marcus daytime parenting,

then overnights after therapist and court review.

No finding that Marcus was a dangerous father generally.

One violent incident mattered.

So did five years of caregiving.

Madison requested sole control of Lily’s passport.

Court ordered neither parent could remove Lily from the state without consent.

Balanced.

Then Marcus asked Madison in mediation:

“Were you going to leave me for Travis?”

“No.”

“Were you going to leave me?”

“I didn’t know.”

“That’s not an answer.”

“It’s the only honest one.”

Then she asked:

“Would you have told me about Peter if Lily never said Travis’s name?”

Marcus paused.

“No.”

There.

Both had planned to control disclosure.
