Chapter 12 - THE HOUSE BELONGS TO ISABEL

The property ruling came first.

Judge Maria Chen issued a clear interim order:

The attempted transfer of Isabel’s beneficial interest was void under the trust terms because protector consent had never been given.

Ana’s signature was forged.

The collateral pledge was therefore invalid as to trust property.

Canyon Ridge retained claims against Luis personally and related entities.

But the house remained in the trust.

For Isabel.

Luis had no ownership.

No possessory right after separation.

No authority.

The judge wrote:

“Marital relationship cannot substitute for title, and control cannot substitute for consent.”

Ana read that line aloud.

Isabel cried.

Not loudly.

Relief.

After the hearing, Luis stood near the courthouse steps.

His lawyer beside him.

He looked at Isabel.

“Happy?”

She stopped.

Ana tensed.

Isabel answered before anyone else.

“No.”

Luis seemed surprised.

She continued:

“But free enough to leave you.”

Then walked away.

Ana nearly cried.

That sentence mattered more than the order.
