Evelyn stopped denying the old plan.
After Caroline died, Mara’s panic episode happened three days before a major trust refinancing.
Evelyn feared Mara would miss the vote.

Conrad faced more serious counts involving drug administration and fraud.
Evelyn lost all trust authority and entered professional disciplinary proceedings.
Miles received limited immunity for cooperation.
Then Mara received the final toxicology sourcing report.
The zolmedrine vial used at Conrad’s home matched the old estate batch.
No doubt.
The drug that reached her glass originated from a purchase made four years earlier.
That fact still bothered her.
Why had so much been ordered for a “possible supervised treatment”?

Mara’s mother.
Evelyn stared.
