Chapter 11 - THE SECOND BINDER

Rachel discovered another binder.

Not Emma’s.

Michael’s.

Linda had kept records on him as a child too.

School reports.

Behavior notes.

Punishments.

Counselor letters.

One page read:

MICHAEL RESPONDS TO FIRM CONSEQUENCES. DO NOT REWARD TEARS.

Rachel stared.

Michael did too.

“You knew about this?”

He shook his head.

Linda had spent decades turning fear into management.

Children cried.

She documented.

Children resisted.

She escalated.

Children complied.

She called it proof the system worked.

Michael had grown up inside the same logic he was now imposing on Emma.

He sat at Rachel’s kitchen table and whispered:

“I thought this was normal.”

Rachel answered:

May you like

“It was familiar.”

Different thing.
