Chapter 7 - LINDA'S BEST ARGUMENT

Linda hired attorney Lauren Pierce.

Lauren was careful.

She did not argue shaving Emma’s hair was acceptable.

She called it:

“an improper disciplinary act.”

Then separated it from Green Valley.

Linda’s donations were charitable.

No personal financial benefit.

No referral fee.

No ownership.

True.

Green Valley was licensed.

Some families benefited.

Residential placement could be appropriate for certain children.

Also true.

Linda’s strongest argument:

“Rachel minimizes Emma’s behavioral difficulties because she feels guilty about working long hours.”

Rachel hated that.

Because she did work long hours.

And Emma had become more anxious over the past year.

But anxious was not the same as dangerous.

Delayed was not the same as disordered.

And Linda’s binder had turned childhood distress into evidence for removal.
