Chapter 5 - GREEN VALLEY

Green Valley Academy marketed itself as:
structured residential support for children with severe behavioral dysregulation.
Rachel called it boarding school for children who needed treatment.
The website used:
calm colors,
smiling families,
therapeutic language.
Michael had toured it.
Without telling Rachel.
Linda had gone with him.
Tuition:
$96,000 per year.
Insurance sometimes covered part.
Family trusts could cover the rest.
Rachel said:
“You were planning to send my daughter away?”
Michael snapped:
“Planning isn’t deciding.”
“You toured it.”
“Yes.”
“You made a file.”
“Yes.”
“You let your mother shave her head.”
“I didn’t know she’d take it that far.”
Rachel looked at him.
“You said good.”
Michael went quiet.
Then Rachel asked:
“Why Green Valley?”
Linda answered before Michael could.
“Because they know how to teach discipline.”
Too quickly.
Rachel noticed.
“What do you know about them?”
Linda’s expression changed.
May you like
Tiny.
Enough.
