Chapter 9 - THE REAL EVALUATION

Emma underwent an independent child-psychology assessment.
Not Green Valley.
Not Linda’s clinician.
Not Rachel’s preferred therapist.
Independent.
The result:
separation anxiety.
stress-related rigidity.
some sensory sensitivity around hair brushing.
no evidence of severe conduct disorder.
no basis for residential placement.
Recommended:
outpatient therapy,
parent coaching,
consistent routines,
reduced adult conflict,
age-appropriate choices.
Rachel cried when she read it.
Not from relief alone.
From rage at how close adults had come to turning anxiety into exile.
Michael read the report twice.
Then sat silently.
Linda rejected it.
“One psychologist.”
Rachel answered:
“One independent psychologist.”
Linda said:
“Emma knows how to perform.”
May you like
Rachel stared.
“She is six.”
