Chapter 6 - ASHLEY'S SHARE

Ashley’s motive was simpler.

If Daniel’s marital trust failed to vest, some residual growth shares stayed under Margaret’s control.

Eventually, Ashley expected a larger portion.

Not guaranteed.

Expected.

She had already borrowed against future distributions.

That was the problem.

Rachel found a UCC filing tied to Ashley’s company:

AC Carter Lifestyle LLC.

Lender:

Northcrest Private Credit.

Collateral:

certain future trust distributions and assignment rights.

Amount:

$1.8 million.

Emily stared.

“Ashley borrowed almost two million dollars?”

“Against money she may not even receive.”

Then why attack Emily?

Because if Daniel’s marital trust vested, Ashley’s expected residual share decreased.

Her borrowing became harder to support.

Then text messages surfaced later.

ASHLEY:

If she’s out before Saturday, we’re fine.

MARGARET:

Do not put that in writing.

ASHLEY:

She won’t leave.

MARGARET:

Then give her a reason.

Not proof of planned assault.

But ominous.
