Chapter 8 - THE SEPARATION PAPER

Margaret’s attorney had prepared a document.
TEMPORARY MARITAL SEPARATION ACKNOWLEDGMENT.
It said:
Emily voluntarily vacated the marital residence on August 27.
The parties intended a period of separation.
No property rights waived.
Sounds harmless.
Except date.
Before anniversary.
If signed, it could support trust non-vesting.
Rachel laughed when she saw it.
“They wanted a timestamp.”
Emily asked:
“Would it work?”
“Maybe. Trust language is fact-sensitive.”
Then Daniel admitted:
He planned to ask Emily to sign after dinner.
He claimed he wanted six months to work on marriage.
Rachel asked:
“Why before Saturday?”
Daniel said:
“Coincidence.”
Nobody believed him.
Then his own email to Margaret surfaced.
Need her out by Friday or we lose leverage.
There.
