Gavin pleaded guilty to kidnapping and obstruction-related offenses.
Colin pleaded to conspiracy and evidence/funeral fraud-related conduct, cooperating against Rachel and Gavin.
Rachel faced:
fraud,
forgery-related conspiracy,
obstruction,
false statements,
abuse of estate and trust process,
and conspiracy around the staged death.
Prosecutors did not charge her with attempted murder.
Evidence did not support it.
They also did not claim she ordered Gavin to kidnap Neftali beyond what messages could prove.
Accuracy mattered.
North Peak terminated the deal.
Returned the $750,000 advance.
Paid civil penalties in related regulatory settlement.
Its internal role was reviewed separately.
Carter Ridge survived.
That fact embarrassed everyone who had justified fraud as necessary.
The company refinanced through another lender.
Sold one non-core parcel.
Reduced expansion plans.
Kept most employees.
North Peak moved its resort access proposal to a neighboring tract under a more expensive agreement.
No economic apocalypse.
Rachel had risked prison to avoid:

reduced profit,
and loss of control.
Eulalia noticed the pattern.
People often called something “survival” when they really meant “the version where I keep winning.”
Neftali noticed too.
He later told the board:
“If a deal requires forged consent, it is not a deal we are entitled to.”
That sentence became a governance policy.
Not inspirational.
Operational.
Independent sign-off for trust amendments.
Direct beneficiary verification.
Outside counsel for related-party transactions.
The boring procedures Rachel considered obstacles became safeguards.
Carter Ridge survived.
Smaller.
Embarrassed.
Still operating.
Neftali stepped down temporarily.
Eulalia’s occupancy rights were restored by court order.
The forged amendment was void.
Then Rachel was convicted on major fraud and obstruction counts and pleaded to additional charges before remaining trial issues.
At sentencing, the prosecutor did not describe her as a monster.
He described sequence.
She knew the cedar tract required Eulalia’s consent.
She possessed the forged trust draft.
She pushed for removal of occupancy protections.
She arranged an empty funeral after Neftali vanished.
She evicted Eulalia immediately.
She told Gavin where Neftali was.
She lied about seeing Neftali at the cabin.
Sequence was stronger than insult.
Rachel’s attorney emphasized she never ordered murder.
True.
Never asked Gavin to hurt Neftali.
Not proven.
Believed the North Peak deal protected hundreds of jobs.
Maybe genuinely.
The judge acknowledged those points.
Then said:
“You repeatedly replaced other people’s consent with your judgment of what was best.”
Eulalia wrote that down.
That was the entire family tragedy in one sentence.

At sentencing, she looked at Eulalia.
“I never wanted him dead.”
