Chapter 13 - THE MARRIAGE

Grant did not file for divorce the first day.
He wanted facts.
Then he found the text.
PATRICIA to MELISSA:
If the kids are here when Evan comes, we lose everything.
MELISSA:
Then send them over.
PATRICIA:
Ava refuses lately. She knows too much.
That sentence ended the marriage.
Not:
She’s difficult.
Not:
She’s scared.
She knows too much.
A six-year-old described as a problem because she could expose an adult lie.
Grant filed.
Patricia cried.
Then became angry.
Then cried again.
She said:
“I was trying to save our finances.”
Grant answered:
May you like
“You used my kids as furniture you could move when someone knocked.”
Patricia had no reply.
