Chapter 15 - THE CAMERA INSIDE THE CASH STRAP
Peter’s note described four evidence lots. Dana located the federal-contact lot in an evidence room under the wrong case number. A retired agent had hidden it after his supervisor ordered him to return the cash to Commonwealth.
The bundle straps contained pinhole optical film. When magnified, each strip displayed warehouse scales, shipment labels, and faces present during false counts.
Rachel had converted ordinary cash straps into photographic evidence.
One sequence showed Martin and Nolan supervising undamaged currency marked for destruction. Another showed a younger Caleb moving sealed bags through a side door.
Caleb admitted his role before Dana confronted him.
At twenty-seven, he was an armored-car guard drowning in medical debt. Nolan paid him to reroute three shipments. Caleb claimed he believed the changes corrected paperwork errors until Samuel questioned him.
After Samuel’s death, Caleb understood.
“Why did Rachel trust you?” Melissa asked.
“She didn’t. She gave me the note because she knew guilt might make me useful.”
Caleb later helped Peter hide the federal evidence lot and monitored Window Six after Peter died. His silence protected the evidence but also allowed Commonwealth to ruin Rachel’s name.
Dana negotiated cooperation terms without promising immunity. Caleb’s recent photographs and testimony mattered, but his earlier conduct remained subject to charges.
The optical film established fraud, not who caused either fatal incident. Martin’s attorneys argued the images lacked dates and could depict legitimate handling.
Then experts found a reflection in one warehouse scale. It showed a wall calendar and Samuel standing beside a fire extinguisher.
