Chapter 11 - THE GUARDIANSHIP PETITION

Evelyn did not withdraw her guardianship request after the freezer.

She modified it.

Bold.

Lauren argued:

Evelyn’s discipline was inappropriate and would stop,

but Ryan’s own pattern remained concerning.

Work absences.

Anger.

Missed school events.

Heavy reliance on caregivers.

Trust-funded housing request.

Then she produced Claire’s old texts.

CLAIRE to Evelyn:

Ryan’s temper scares me sometimes.

Ryan went cold.

There were more.

He gets so angry when work goes wrong.

I hate fighting in front of Lily.

Real.

Claire had written them during a difficult year.

Ryan did have a temper.

He had never hit Claire.

But he:

shouted,

punched a wall once,

broke a phone by throwing it.

Ugly.

Then a later text:

We’re in counseling. He’s trying. I love him.

Lauren did not hide that.

Smart.

Her argument was not:

Ryan monster.

It was:

Lily has two imperfect adults, so court should increase neutral oversight.

Reasonable.

Maya agreed to:

guardian ad litem,

independent trust review,

parenting assessment.

Ryan hated conceding.

Then understood:

transparency helped him.

Evelyn built power through secrecy.

Ryan could beat her with scrutiny.
