Chapter 11 - THE PAYMENT

Mason had been paid.

$75,000.

Not by Sofia.

By North Harbor Family Services LLC.

A company registered six months earlier.

Owner on paper:

Evelyn Shaw.

Seventy-one-year-old retired accountant.

Mother of Gabriel Shaw.

Gabriel was the attorney who had drafted amendments to Elena’s trust after her death.

He was also Sofia’s longtime legal adviser.

Now the case changed.

Gabriel said the company belonged to his mother and provided family-office bookkeeping.

Records showed almost no real operations.

Money moved:

Sofia Moretti personal investment account

→ Shaw Legal escrow

→ North Harbor Family Services

→ Mason Reed.

Amount from Sofia into escrow:

$90,000.

Sofia stared at the transfer.

“That was for legal and security review.”

Gabriel had labeled the escrow matter:

EMERGENCY GUARDIANSHIP PREP.

Sofia said:

“I authorized planning. Not poisoning.”

Gabriel’s face remained calm.

Dominic asked:

“Then why pay Mason?”

Gabriel answered:

“Because Mason was conducting independent threat assessment.”
