Chapter 3 - SOFIA MORETTI

Sofia Moretti arrived at the estate at 1:18 a.m.

She had not attended the party.

At least, that was what she claimed.

She wore a cream coat over a dark dress and walked directly to Ethan.

She hugged him.

Then Grace.

Then Lily.

“You saved him.”

Dominic watched his sister carefully.

“Mason is gone.”

Sofia stepped back.

“What?”

“Your man.”

“Mason?”

“He left before police could interview him.”

Sofia’s shock looked real.

That did not mean it was.

Mason had worked for her six years.

He drove her.

Managed her home security.

Handled her travel.

Sofia said:

“If he did this, I want him found.”

Dominic answered:

“So do I.”

Then he asked:

“Where were you tonight?”

“At the Hudson Trust dinner.”

She produced:

guest list,

photos,

parking receipt.

Alibi.

Strong.

Then Grace noticed something.

Sofia did not ask what was in the cake.

She asked:

“How much did Ethan eat?”

Dominic’s eyes shifted.

“None.”

Sofia exhaled.

Relief.

Too much relief?

Or normal relief?

Grace could not tell.

That was the problem with fear.

Everything looked guilty after midnight.
