Chapter 8 - EVELYN'S BEST DEFENSE

Evelyn hired Lauren Pierce.
Lauren’s argument was not ridiculous.
Claire bought the house during a crisis.
Her parents contributed years of:
maintenance,
utilities,
improvements,
property taxes.
The family continued treating the house as intergenerational property.
Could Richard and Evelyn claim an equitable interest?
Possibly.
Depending on evidence.
Could they claim Claire had promised they could stay indefinitely?
They said yes.
Claire said no.
No recording proved either side.
Then the occupancy agreement.
Five years.
Signed.
Renewal required writing.
That was difficult for Evelyn.
Lauren shifted strategy.
She argued for:
reasonable move-out time,
reimbursement for documented improvements,
settlement of contribution claims.
That was much stronger.
Claire listened.

She was angry.
Not stupid.
