Chapter 12 - ADRIAN'S BUSINESS COLLAPSES
Without access to Lucy’s credit, the delivery business failed within six weeks.
The van was repossessed.
Two restaurant contracts ended.
Adrian blamed Lucy at first.
Then the accountant showed:
the route never generated enough margin to support debt.
The business had been structurally weak.
Adrian had kept borrowing because stopping would prove he had failed.
That was the emotional core.
Failure terrified him.
He had grown up with a father who called broke men useless.
Adrian promised himself he would never be one.
So when the business lost money:
he borrowed.
When debt grew:
he hid it.
When Lucy questioned him:
he controlled.
When the baby cried:
he struck.
One belief turned into a chain.
In treatment Adrian said:
“I thought if I could just get one good month, I could fix everything before she knew.”
Therapist answered:
“And when she knew?”
“I panicked.”
“Panic does not hit people.”
