Chapter 14 - THE DIVORCE
Lucy filed for divorce.
Adrian did not contest the marriage ending.
He contested money.
Who owed what?
The court and lenders sorted categories:
unauthorized debt,
joint household expenses,
business liabilities,
personal gambling transfers.
No fantasy where Adrian absorbed every dollar instantly.
No fantasy where Lucy walked away untouched.
But the most abusive accounts were challenged successfully.
Adrian accepted responsibility for the business loan settlement.
Lucy retained:
her wages,
her new account,
primary residential care of Emiliano.
Adrian began supervised visits after six months.
First visit:
forty-five minutes.
Therapist present.
Emiliano cried at first.
Lucy almost stopped it.
Therapist said:
“Watch.”
Adrian sat on the floor.
Did not reach.
Did not demand.
Waited.
Eventually Emiliano picked up a toy truck and pushed it toward him.
Small.
Not forgiveness.
Contact.
Lucy watched through glass.

It required conditions strong enough that fatherhood could not become entitlement.
