Chapter 10 - THE EMAIL

The email that broke Marcus came from his own assistant’s archive.
Three days before the first DNA test:
MARCUS:
Once exclusion comes back, freeze Maya’s distribution immediately.
ASSISTANT:
What if it doesn’t exclude?
MARCUS:
It will.
ASSISTANT:
How can you know?
No answer.
Then later:
MARCUS:
Route all beneficiary-dispute expenses through reserve. Use Northbridge and Kestrel first.
ASSISTANT:
Need conflict disclosures?
MARCUS:
Not for ordinary vendors.
Then:
ASSISTANT:
Julian may ask.
MARCUS:
Julian asks everything. Give him totals, not ownership charts.
Julian Croft read that email twice.
Then closed his eyes.
Marcus had not merely reacted to a DNA result.
