Chapter 11 - JULIAN CROFT

Julian had been Charles Kincaid’s closest board adviser.

He blamed himself.

He had approved the reserve structure.

Why?

Because Marcus framed the issue as urgent fiduciary protection.

Julian asked questions.

Just not enough.

Maya confronted him.

“You let them erase me.”

Julian answered:

“I let procedure replace judgment.”

She said nothing.

He continued:

“I thought neutrality meant treating the DNA report as fact.”

“It was evidence.”

“Yes.”

“Bad evidence.”

“Yes.”

That distinction mattered.

Julian became the board member who pushed for:

independent forensic audit,

vendor clawbacks,

external trust counsel,

removal of Marcus from all fiduciary matters.

Not redemption.

Responsibility.
