Margaret’s assault case focused on:
throwing the basin,
hair pulling,
forced humiliation,
and Elena’s pregnancy status.
No blood.
No fracture.
No direct abdominal strike.
Still serious.
Daniel’s assault was handled separately.
He admitted the slap.
No denial.
No claim Elena provoked him.
He entered a negotiated disposition involving:
probation,
anger intervention,
and compliance with protective orders.
Margaret fought longer.
She said:
“Elena insulted me.”
True.
Elena had muttered:
Damn old witch.
The judge asked:
“And that justified striking a pregnant woman with a metal basin?”
Margaret looked away.
No.
Then Elena gave a brief statement.
“You wanted me to kneel because you thought family rank made humiliation legitimate.”
Pause.
“You wanted Daniel uncertain because uncertainty gave you influence.”
Pause.
“And when neither worked fast enough, you used force.”
Margaret cried.
Elena did not ask for maximum punishment.
She asked for distance.
The court imposed proportional consequences.
Then Daniel faced Elena outside court.
“I’m sorry.”
She answered:
“I know.”
He waited.
