Chapter 9 - MARGARET'S EMAILS
Margaret denied manipulation.
Her lawyer, Rachel Morgan, argued:
She shared documents she believed relevant.
She did not forge the ultrasound note.
She did not invent the hotel receipt.
She did not write Elena’s message.
True.
Then discovery in the family trust dispute revealed emails.
Margaret to her private financial adviser:
If Daniel doubts the child, he will delay the estate update.
Then:
Delay gives us time to keep Hartwell interests inside the family line.
The adviser replied:
Do not act on unverified paternity concerns. This creates serious family and legal risk.
Margaret ignored the warning.
Another email:
I don’t need proof. I need him uncertain.
That sentence ended the “concerned mother” defense.
Then a message to a cousin:
Once he questions her, she’ll show her true colors.
No instruction to assault.
No conspiracy network.
Just Margaret building pressure.
Then Elena found one more email.
Margaret to Daniel, weeks before the foyer:
Don’t confront her yet. Watch her.
Elena stared.
That explained his eyes.
The questions.
The distance.
The nights he rolled away in bed.
He had been watching his pregnant wife like a suspect.
Then Daniel read the same email.
He said:
“I thought I was being careful.”
Elena answered:
May you like
“You were being cruel quietly.”
That was worse than one slap because it had lasted weeks.
